In January of 2019, I joined in with with my local church as we started a 52- week journey reading through the Bible chronologically. Yes, chronologically. Turns out, the books of the Bible to which most of us are accustomed are primarily divided by the type of literature as opposed to the order being based on when the events actually took place.
Any whoo… no matter the order or the pace, any journey through the Bible is worth it! This particular journey of mine was no exception. I was challenged and I learned a lot. What I loved most was connecting the dots! I have a better understanding of how all the events of the Bible are tied together to tell one great story. I knew a story here and a story there. I could tell you a little about Adam and Eve and something about Moses and the burning bush. I was familiar with Paul and Silas and knew of John the Baptist. What I did not know was how each one of these people and the events they experienced fit as puzzle pieces designed to portray one beautiful portrait of a God loving on His creation.
I did not trek this journey perfectly. I started strong, fell off a bit, got back on, gave up, then joined in again at my own pace. Even still, His grace was sufficient!
That being said, here we are in 2020– a new year. I want you to consider journeying through God’s word yourself.
Perhaps, daily time in the Bible is already a part of your routine. Great! Keep it up.
Perhaps, you don’t have the time to add another thing to your list of duties. I get it. Do it anyway!
Perhaps, you don’t want to commit to something to which you have a track record of not remaining committed. I hear you! Commit anyway.
None of us will trek this journey perfectly. Some will start strong. Some will fall off a bit. Others will get back on, give up, then join in again at their own pace. Just remember: His grace is sufficient!
Not sure where to start?
I’ve got you! Consider one of the following:
