Is this pandemic an expression of God’s wrath and judgment? Is this pandemic a sign that the end times are beginning? Or is this pandemic simply the fruit of a fallen and sinful world?
I can understand these questions being asked. I mean … which is it? In Exodus God brought plagues “to make [us] see [His] power.” In Deuteronomy, God said disobedience to the Mosaic Law among the Israelites would result in Him striking them with “wasting disease, with fever and inflammation…” Then the gospels of Matthew and Mark teach us that Jesus healed “every disease and every sickness” to verify that He was truly the Son of God.
So which is it?
I do not know.
What I do know is no matter the cause of or the reason for this current pandemic, our response should be the same: for the one who does not believe in Christ, consider this a reminder that life is but a vapor. Know that without the shed blood of Christ, the sin unbelief will land you eternally separated for God and that will make this pandemic seem mild. For the believer, rest in the hope of salvation and the assurance of eternal life with our Savior.
Whether or not COVID-19 is a repeat of any Biblical happenings or the manifestation of any Biblical prophecies remains unconfirmed in my world. What has been confirmed is God is in control. He is good. And He is good at being God. Not to mention, “we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love [this good] God and are fitting into his [good] plans” for us, a people he sincerely and completely and unconditionally loves! (Romans 8:28 TLB)
Which is it, you ask? It is that which has not caught Him off guard. It is that which He is sovereign enough to use to accomplish His will and His perfect plan for His creation.
Rest in that truth!
